Brighton A maintained their 100 percent record to stay top of Division One but were given a scare by their B team at the New Oak. Brighton B raced into a 2-0 lead with Jean Brackenridge winning the first and Sandra Hall beating Matthew Knight against the break. Super sub Bob Osborne took the first leg for the visitors but Jim Greensted put the hosts on the edge of the win by taking the next. Brighton A got back in the game with wins for Phil Osborne and Grant Tully and it all came down to the decider where Nigel Senior narrowly got the better of Alan Brackenridge.
Worthing A kept in close pursuit in second with a win at Redhill A. Terry Molloy won the first for the away team against the normally dependable Geoff Jukes and Martin Smith put them two up. Redhill came back with wins for Dave Jones and Dave Constable but Kevin Tunstall and Mike Daw sealed the victory for Worthing. Terry Oakley took the last for Redhill.
Tunbridge Wells versus West Sussex was postponed.
Following some shocks during Series Five divisional status was returned to normal with the higher division team winning all three matches that were played.
Redhill B remain top of Division Two following an emphatic 7-0 whitewash against Brighton C. With all of the visiting players struggling to get going it proved to be an easier night than expected for the hosts with Martin Pellett, Martin Greenway, Joe Elleson, Anita Blackman, Tom Pearse, Alex Hornby and Mark Fraser all having comfortable wins.
Worthing B kept on the pressure at the top of the table with a 5-2 home win against Mid Sussex. Ben Goddwin continued his good home form to take the first and Rick Cunningham and Pete Hickman put Worthing in a commanding position by winning the second and third legs against the break. Derek Taylor put Mid Sussex back in the match in another leg that went against the break but the pattern continued and Gary Ridley sealed the victory in the fifth. The last two legs went with the break with Ros Appleby (Mid Sussex) and Tony Jenner (Worthing B) getting the wins.
Horsham moved off the bottom of the table with a narrow 4-3 win against Lewes. Dick Cable finally managed to keep a break towards the end to win a low scoring first leg and Ricky Dewdney put the hosts in control by taking the second at the first chance. Lewes fought back with wins for Jan Bithell and Colin Southouse, who beat Gareth Lloyd against the break. Stuart Carruthers put Horsham back in front in the fifth but Ric Bithell levelled the match with a last ball victory against Iain Tarrant. The decider was close throughout but Horsham’s Brian Marten was on top at the end.
Littlehampton versus Hastings was postponed.
