Brighton A remain unbeaten and top of Division One with a 4-3 win at home to Redhill A. Grant Tully got them off to the perfect start before Geoff Jukes levelled the match. Phil Osborne got the important win against the break in the third and Kevin Hall put them one leg away with an opening winning break. Redhill levelled with wins for Dave Constable and Terry Oakley but Nigel Senior killed it off first time in the decider.
Worthing A strengthen their grip of second and kept within one win of the leaders following a 5-2 victory at home to Tunbridge Wells. Worthing raced into a two leg lead with a win for Stuart Mepham and then Gerry Fitzjohn taking advantage of a lost opening break from Richard Corbould. Pete Sainsbury got the visitors first leg but a 10k and touch from Martin Smith re-established Worthing’s two leg lead. Ian Wright kept Tunbridge Wells in the match but Joe Oakley won against the break to seal the win. Kevin Tunstall capped the performance with a win against Curt Driver where both players had one break each.
West Sussex moved off the bottom of the table with a 7-0 thrashing of Brighton B. The hosts were in top form to get their first win of the season with Chris Cox, Martin Cole, Kevin Charlton, Barry Holt, Mick Pope, Mick Freeman and Daniel Wheal all successful.
In Division Two Worthing B moved top after they beat Hastings 6-1 while Redhill B lost to Lewes 6-1. Worthing went 3-0 up with Dave Jones, Alan Messer and Paul Barnett all winning. Hastings Jamie Minihane then went big with a 19,420 score to give Hastings a leg but that was it for them with Tony Jenner, Alan Mepham and Rick Cunningham getting the wins.
Redhill B struggled at Lewes, who went top of Division Three with the win. The hosts secured the victory in the first four legs with wins for Jan Bithell, Colin Southouse, Huw Lincoln and Dave Knight. Tom Pearse took Redhill’s only leg before Richard Todd and Chase Newman added to the impressive Lewes victory.
The games between Brighton C and Littlehampton and Mid Sussex and Horsham were both postponed.
