March saw one series of Inter League fixtures and one rearranged game.
Series Nine was played on Sunday 13th March and in Division One Brighton A’s title aspirations took a dent with a 4-3 defeat at Worthing A.
Worthing got off to a strong start with Stuart Mepham winning the opener and then super sub Gareth Cornford winning against the break. This put Worthing in a strong position but Brighton fought back strongly to regain the advantage with wins for Phil Osborne, Nigel Senior and Jim Millward. However Worthing finished as strongly as the started and Terry Molloy beat Dave ngram against the break before Martin Smith made an excellent break in the last to seal the match.
The other Division One match was delayed to Sunday 3rd April due to Covid but when it was played Redhill A won 4-3 at home to Tunbridge Wells. The hosts started well with the ever dependable Geoff Jukes winning the first and Tony Cross beating Curt Driver against the break in the second. The next four legs went with the break with Dave Jones winning for Redhill and Gerry Fitzjohn, Richard Corbould and Ian Wright for the visitors. This set-up a decider but Colin Robbins proved too strong for Paul Sainsbury.
In Division Two Worthing B closed the gap to leaders Littlehampton with a 4-3 “home” win against Littlehampton. The game was moved from their normal home venue to the Stags Head but that didn’t effect the hosts who put in a strong performance. The winners for the hosts were Gary Ridley, Brian Richards, Tony Jenner and Steve Aylmore; for the visitors it was James Whittle, Chris Lawman and Steve Beach.
Lewes moved off the bottom of the table with a commanding 6-1 home victory over Redhill B. Jan Bithell, Ric Bithell, Trevor Rees and Colin Southouse sealed the match win in the first four legs. Richard Todd made it five before Jim Balchin took Redhill B’s consolation leg. Chase Neman completed the win.
A rearranged match from Series Six was played on Sunday 27th Match and Worthing B moved top of Division Two with a 4-3 win at home to Redhill B. On two occasions Worthing had pulled in front only for Redhill to fight back, but in the deciding leg Tony Jenner was a narrow winner. The other victors on the night were Rick Cunningham, Ben Goodwin and Paul Barnett for the Home team and Martin Pellett, Joe Elleson and Mark Fraser for the Away team.
