The New Year started with Series Five of the Home and Away Inter League to end the first-half of the season and Tunbridge Wells remained unbeaten in Division One.
They travelled to Brighton B who had caused some surprised in 2022 but they avoided a shock with a 5-2 win. Alan Brackenridge won first for the hosts but Gerry Fitzjohn and Pete Sainsbury put the visitors in front by winning on their first visit. Marcus Chipman got Brighton back level before Curt Driver restored Tunbridge Wells lead with a 10k and touch. The key to the match came in leg six, Richard Corbould missed on 3k and looked in trouble until Stuart Carruthers totally missed the ball up the table and lost a winning break. Bryan Stevens then wrapped up the win for the away side.
Redhill A stay firmly in contention with a 5-2 home win against Worthing A, who continue to struggle on their visits to Surrey.
Redhill raced into a 3-0 lead with Geoff Jukes, John Slee and Colin Robbins winning on a tricky table. Joe Oakley and Mike Daw put Worthing back into contention but it proved short lived as Dave Constable and Dave Jones sealed the win for the home team.
West Sussex continue to lead the pack in Division Two with a 4-3 home win against Redhill B in a match that had its twists and turns. Barry Holt and Alan Hitchman won the first two legs for the hosts but the visitors battled back and took the lead with Mark Fraser, Alex Hornby and Michael Wilson winning. West Sussex had two strong players left and that proved decisive as Chris Cox and Martin Cole both got good breaks to get the victory.
Littlehampton also had a comeback win in their visit to Worthing B. James Whittle and Rick Cunningham led the hosts in a strong start before Eric Mole (Littlehampton) and Neil Higgins (Worthing B) shared legs. This left Worthing B in a strong position but the away team fought back with Dave Lee, Steve Beach and Dave Hampton getting wins.
The final match of the series saw Lewes get a good 5-2 win against Mid Sussex. Chase Newman, Ric Bithell, Dave Knight, Alec Pope and Richard Todd were the winners for Lewes with Derek Taylor and Andy Farmer-Wright getting the legs for the away team.
