Champions Worthing have taken the early lead in Division One with a hard fought 4-3 home win against Redhill A.
Despite some struggles in the second leg the first four legs were won by the break players with Martin Smith and Kevin Tunstall for Worthing and Gary Powell and Dave Jones for Redhill. Geoff Jukes took a close fifth leg in the last couple of minutes before Michael Wilson almost sealed the win for the visitors but was unlucky to peg an 8k break giving Joe Oakley the chance to take the leg. Stuart Mepham then sealed the victory for Worthing getting enough first visit.
West Sussex sit second on four points having beaten Tunbridge Wells 4-3 at home. The first four legs went with the break the winners being Ian Cross (WS), Pete Sainsbury (TW), Gerry Fitzjohn (TW) and Daniel Wheal (TW). The key leg was the fifth where Martin Cole took advantage of a miss by Curt Driver. Ian Wright levelled the match but Chris Cox won the decider for the host.
After being relegated from Division One last season Worthing B are setting the early pace in Division Two. They secured a solid 5-2 win away at Brighton B despite losing the first two legs to Moppy Scott and Tim Scotney. Roger Taylor, Dave Ingram, Alan Mepham, James Whittle and Tony Jenner won the remaining legs for the away side.
Mid Sussex are also unbeaten on six points after a narrow 4-3 win away at Littlehampton. The first five legs went to the break player; Gareth Cornford and Colin Green won for Littlehampton and Mick Kirwan, Paul Jobbins and Ros Appleby won for the visitors. Steve Beach put the hosts in a good position by winning the sixth leg against the break but Mid Sussex fought back with Barry West winning by 470 points.
Lewes moved third and above Brighton C on legs won after beating them 5-2 at home. Colin Southouse, Ric Bithell, Richard Todd, Chase Newman and Dave Knight won for the hosts with Alan Brackenridge and Sandra Hall taking the legs for the away team.
