Inter League 2021/22 Series Five Round-Up

Tunbridge Wells moved level on points with leaders Worthing A with a 4-3 win away in a match that was played at the Alexandra. The evening started well for the hosts with Martin Smith retaining his 100 percent record, but Tunbridge Wells fought back with Richard Corbould and Pete Sainsbury both winning tight legs. Mike Daw also retained a 100 percent record to level the match for Worthing, but the breaks continued to prove crucial as Gerry Fitzjohn and Curt Driver sealed the match for the visitors. Phil Oakley won the last to get an extra leg for Worthing A.

Redhill A versus Brighton B was postponed from the original date but was played on Sunday 2nd January and the visitors came away with a surprising win. The ever dependable Geoff Jukes won the first for Redhill but Brighton B levelled with Stuart Carruthers winning the second leg. Colin Robbins then won the third against the break and Dave Jones put the hosts on the brink of victory by winning the fourth. However Brighton B had other ideas with both Jim Greensted and Jean Brackenridge opening with enough in their legs and then Marcus Chipman taking the chance when it was presented against John Slee.

West Sussex against Brighton A was postponed.

Littlehampton moved top of Division Two with an impressive 6-1 win away at Lewes. Steve Hurley set them up nicely by winning the first against the break and then Chris Lawman and James Whittle, with the top score of the night, put them 3-0 up. The match was sealed when John Dynes won a low scoring fourth leg. Steve Beach won the fifth for Littlehampton before Lewes got a consolation leg from Chase Newman. Dave Hampton put further gloss on the victory for the visitors in the last.

Mid Sussex moved level on points with second-placed Redhill B by beating them 4-3. The hosts got off to a great start with Barry West winning the first leg and Ian Giffen getting what proved to be the crucial leg against the break in the next. Alex Hornby got Redhill’s first leg, but Derek Taylor extended Mid Sussex’s lead. Michael Wilson and Anita Blackman then both won for the visitors to take the match to a decider. Both captains were left to play and Ros Appleby got the win for Mid Sussex with a win over Mark Fraser.
