After an 18 month enforced break following the COVID-19 restrictions, Inter League Home and Away returned with four matches being played across two divisions.
Brighton A started the defence of the Division One title with a comfortable 5-2 home victory against their B team. The hosts sealed the win in the first four legs with wins for a returning Dave Ingram, who opened with enough, Jim Millward, Nigel Senior and Phil Osborne. Brighton B got a couple of legs on the board with Jean Brackenridge and Stuart Carruthers both overcoming injuries to get wins, before the A’s Chris Tupper won the last.
Worthing A won 6-1 against Redhill A at The Henty. The visitors got off to a fast start with Tony Cross winning against the break, but it was the hosts who had the run of the balls after this. Ian Lelliott and Terry Molloy won against the break for Worthing before Martin Smith put them 3-1 with a dominant win with the break. The match was won in the fifth leg with one of the lowest ever winning scores in Inter League history. Mike Daw and John Slee were both scoreless with around a minute left after both lost breaks, but it was Mike who was on the table at the right time to win by a score of 210-100! Kevin Tunstall and Joe Oakley added the extra legs in the last two legs.
In Division Two Redhill B took an early lead with a 5-2 home win against Worthing B in a game where all players had chances to win their games. The first two legs went with the break with Martin Pellett for Redhill and Rick Cunningham for Worthing taking their chances. The third leg was the highest quality of the night with Joe Elleson getting enough after Alan Messer had opened well for the visitors. Redhill B sealed the points in the next two legs with wins for Tom Pearse and Martin Greenway. The last two legs were shared with both Tony Jenner (Worthing B) and Mark Fraser (Redhill B) winning with the break.
Mid Sussex also opened with a win after a hard fought 4-3 victory at home to Lewes. The key leg was the second with Ros Appleby winning against the break for the hosts. All other legs went with the breaks with wins for Barry West, Derek Taylor and Paul Jobbins for Mid Sussex and Jan Bithell, Richard Todd and Dave Knight for Lewes.
