Inter League 2021/22 Series Two Round-Up

Worthing A stayed top of Division One with a 5-2 win away at West Sussex.

Gary Evans started with a win for the hosts before Mike Daw and Joe Oakley both opened with enough to put Worthing ahead. The legs continued to go with the breaks as Daniel Wheal levelled the match but wins for Kevin Tunstall and Martin Smith secured the victory for the visitors. Stuart Mepham added the extra leg by winning the last against the break.

Defending champions Brighton A suffered an early defeat in their defence of the title after losing 4-3 away at Redhill A. The first four legs all went with the break to leave the match level as Geoff Jukes and Dave Jones for Redhill and Dave Ingram and Matt Knight for Brighton all had comfortable wins. Redhill took control of the match with Tony Cross winning against the break in the fifth and sealed the victory when Dave Constable won the sixth. The last leg also went against the break with Nigel Senior getting a solid win.

Brighton B bounced back from their opening day defeat with a surprise 4-3 win at home to Tunbridge Wells. Missing a few players, the remaining regulars put in goof performances to claim the points. Like the other matches in Division One the first four legs all went with the break and Jim Greensted (Bri), Pete Sainsbury (TW), Gerry Fitzjohn (TW) and Alan Brackenridge (Bri) all winning. Marcus Chipman then played a brilliant leg to take the important leg against the break for Brighton before Curt Driver levelled the match for Tunbridge Wells. Jean Brackenridge then won the decider to give Brighton B their first win of the season.

Division Two remains tight with the two teams who won in Series One both losing. Redhill B lost 4-3 to Littlehampton in a tight match and Mid Sussex fought back against Worthing B before also losing 4-3.

Redhill B started the night well with Nev Blackman winning the opening leg against the break before Chris Lawman did the same for Littlehampton. A comfortable win for Joe Elleson put Redhill back ahead but Littlehampton levelled again with Steve Beach winning well with the break and then took the lead when Steve Hurley won a tight leg to make it 3-2. Martin Greenway levelled for Redhill B before Dave Hampton played a good leg with the break to secure the win for the hosts.

Worthing B started strongly against Mid Sussex and won the first two legs with wins from Pete Hickman and Paul Barnett. A leg each from Graham Sparksman (MS) and Rick Cunningham (Wor) left the hosts 3-1 up but Mid Sussex battled back with Ros Appleby and Barry West both winning with the break. The deciding leg went the way of the home team with Tony Jenner playing well to win comfortably.
