Inter League 2022/23 April Round-Up

One match from Series Eight in Division One was played on Sunday 2nd April with the big South Coast derby between Worthing A and Brighton A taking place. A defeat for either would end their title hopes. A close match which was ebbed and flowed and was won by the home team in a decider. Terry Molloy (W), Martin Smith (W), Rob Hall (B), Nigel Senior (B), Kevin Tunstall (W), Chris Tupper (B) and Mike Daw (W) were the winners.

On Tuesday 11th April Brighton A played at home to Tunbridge Wells and won 5-2. Phil Osborne, Kevin Hall, Jim Millward, Chris Tupper and Nigel Senior won for the hosts with Gerry Fitzjohn and Curt Driver taking the legs for the Kent side.

Brighton A played another rearrange match on Monday 17th April when they played Redhill A in a delayed Series Seven game. Needing to win to keep the title in their own hands the visitors took their chances at the end to claim a 4-3 win. After Nigel Senior got a big break and score in the first leg of 26,570, Redhill took the next three legs from Geoff Jukes, Dave Jones and Denise Wills to leave them on the hill. Jim Millward and Matthew Knight fought back but Dave Constable won the decider.

Series Nine took place on Sunday 23rd April and Worthing A needed to win big to keep the league alive. They duly did this taking the first six legs from Kevin Tunstall, Joe Oakley, Terry Molloy, Ian Lelliott, Stuart Mepham and Roger Taylor before Stuart Carruthers saved the whitewash.

In the other match Tunbridge Wells and Brighton A met for the second time in two weeks and the outcome was the send with Brighton winning. This time it was by a 4-3 scoreline with all legs going with the break. Pete Sainsbury, Richard Corbould and Ian Wright winning for the home team and Matthew Knight, Rob Hall, Grant Tully and Nigel Senior for the visitors.

In Series Eight in Division Two Lewes beat Worthing B 4-3 and in a low scoring encounter Mid Sussex got a big 6-1 win against Redhill B.

The Littlehampton against West Sussex matched was postponed until the 25th April and the visitors put in a dominant display to win 5-2 and extend their lead at the top.

The Series Nine matches in Division Two were all played on different dates. First up was Lewes against Littlehampton on Sunday 16th April, which the home team won 5-2. Next up West Sussex beat Mid Sussex 4-3 on Thursday 20th April and finally on Sunday 23rd April Worthing B hosted Redhill B and were beaten 4-3.
