Joe Oakley won his first Open when taking the victory in Guernsey on Sunday 1st May.
Having been tipped for a while to make the breakthrough at National level, Joe beat Mark Trafford in a low scoring Final. Despite being better known for his high scoring play, Joe mastered the tough tables well in come though a tricky section of the draw that saw him also beat Kevin Tunstall, Trevor Gallienne and recent Surrey Open winner Alan Donovan.
Jim Millward reached the semi-final and Stuart Mepham and Chris Tupper both got to the last eight.
Sussex were also successfully in the Doubles, played the day before, with Nigel Senior and Alan Brackenridge beating Gary Ridley and Ian Lelliott in the Final.
