KT makes it Six in the World Championship

Kevin Tunstall became a six time World Champion when claiming the trophy at the Merton Hotel in Jersey on Sunday 10th November.

Playing his teammate and doubles partner Martin Cole in the Final, KT won the roll of the dice and put Nipper in. Martin, making his first appearance in the World final, missed his first split but after a few visits each got the break back to play out the rest of the leg in rapid style to give him an 11k lead. However it never looked enough as Kevin eased his way to a 15k break before touching up with just over a minute left.

Kevin has previously won the title in 1993, 1994, 2006, 2011 and 2012 and will be hoping to make it a third back-to-back success next year.

Having finished second in his group behind Worthing teammate Gerry Fitzjohn on the Saturday, Kevin hit top form on the Sunday to see off Phil Hawkins (Berks), Rick Cunningham (Worthing), Stephen Coleman (Northants), Bob Chapple (Guernsey) and Mark Trafford (Oxon) on route to the Final.

Martin beat Emma Noel (Jersey), James Whittle (Littlehampton), Curt Driver (Kent), Stuart Mepham (Worthing) and James Jeanne (Jersey) in the knock-out stages.

Along with Stuart, who lost a close match to Martin, Jack Baden and Neil Higgins were eliminated to the quarter-finals, having each reached that stage for the first time; while Nigel Senior and Richard Wooton made the last 16.

Alan Brackenridge won the Plate for the second time, following his success in 2008, after beating Kyle Ingram in the Final.

Kevin and Martin were also the furthest progressing Sussex pair in the doubles where they made the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champions of Cliff Slade and Matt Jones (Bucks). In the newly created Doubles Plate competition Sussex had more success with Paul Barnett and Neil Higgins winning the title.
