Prince of Wales are Sussex Team Champions

The Prince of Wales won the Watney Mann beating Stags Head C in a very close Final.

The Final was played over two legs on consecutive Thursday nights and a very quality match went to a play-off leg after both teams won their home games 3-2.

The first leg was played at the Stags Head and despite some problems with the table and the bar trapping balls, the home team got off to a flying start with Dave Ingram winning with the break and Mark James beating Martin Cole against. The final three legs were all won first visit by the break player with Joe Oakley and Chris Cox for the visitors and Jim Millward for the hosts.

The return leg had a similar pattern. The Prince of Wales won the first two legs to take an overall lead in the match with Barry Holt opening with enough and Joe Oakley taking advantage of a Mark James miss. Dave Ingram made it 4-4 before Martin Cole restored the POW lead. Needing to win to force the play-off Martin Smith made sure when getting the balls back for a second time.

The Play-Off was a rematch between Martin Cole and Jim Millward. Despite not having had much of a go earlier in the night Jim went first and ran the table out to set a target of 14,490. Martin started well in reply but left an awkward ball on 8k and following a bit of luck got back on the break and sealed the win by catching Jim’s score.

The Prince of Wales will now represent Sussex in the AEBBA Team Championship later in the year.
